BLUSH - Beautiful, Lovable, Unique Sisterhood. BLUSH was founded in 2015 by Ms. Renee Brown, a fellow school counselor. Her goal was to change one young lady at a time by providing a mentoring program where self-esteem and confidence were cultivated. Our goal is to help each student understand their beauty and worth.
BLUSH seeks to provide at-risk and underprivileged 7th and 8th grade girls the opportunity to establish meaningful relationships, experience success in the classroom, explore career possibilities, and foster confidence and self-esteem.
The female mentoring program provides not only the opportunity for additional learning experiences but also a time to share and connect with fellow peers through the struggles of middle school.
My Project
In the US Economy, careers in STEM related fields are the fastest growing and highest paying in the Nation, yet many young people are not interested in careers in STEM. They view STEM as something that exists in a textbook, not something that impacts their own lives. iFLY Atlanta has a unique opportunity to show students that STEM is relevant, real, and exciting.
By using the highly engaging context of indoor skydiving, iFLY gives students a hands-on and full body experience of STEM.
Our girls will leave the facilities feeling inspired to pursue STEM experiences in their own lives.
Not only will they experience the feeling of flying themselves, but they will also participate in interactive sessions where different objects are put into the wind tunnel. They will build a basic parachute; discover what makes a parachute work; predict how each variable would change its success; use measuring tools such as tapes, scales, and stopwatches; record and read data, and discuss reasons for their results. This field trip would bring what they learn in a textbook to life!
