Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Hello, I am a fifth and sixth grade inclusion teacher at a highly disadvantaged public school in the Bronx. My class focuses on, and relies heavily on, any technology possible. I have been using my own digital camera in the classroom to let the children take pictures that I print out on our regular printer. As you can imagine the pictures are pretty terrible. They are in black and white and are very difficult to see.
Because I teach inclusion, I have 60% of my students in general education and the other 40% in special education. This means I have a wide range of learners! Some of my students perform on a Kindergarten/1st grade level while others are perform at their grade level. The one place where there is little difference in performance is in the creative projects that are created. All of my students have unique talents, particularly when we are working on our classroom newspaper. Some students excel in photography while others are amazing editors and artists. All of my students have a true eye for photograhpy.
While I have a digital camera we have no effective means to print out photos at school. I love showing my students' work and desperately need a photo printer to display student work and photos of our students working. The photos would serve not only to celebrate accomplishments of the students, but to help them also feel that they are an integral part of the school community. The pictures would help make our classroom newspaper look completely professional.
Please help my students to show off their amazing works with a photo printer. This printer will be a part of my school for years to come and will provide hundreds of students the opportunity to feel successful and important. Thank you so much in advance.
