Imagine wanting to learn and pay attention but having so much energy in you that you cannot focus. My students' Autism makes it so that they are often overstimulated and unable to focus. These alternate seating options will allow them to wiggle and focus with ease.
The six incredible scholars that I teach are second graders that are eager and excited to learn.
They all have autism and have unique sensory needs that require that materials and ideas be presented in different manners. They attend a special education school in a high poverty area in Brooklyn. They deserve the materials that they need to be successful in their learning. This means that I need to meet their sensory needs so that learning can occur. Our school tries it hardest to supply our students with these tools and materials that it needs to be successful. Your support of this project will show our students, school, and community that they have a network of support that wants them to succeed.
My Project
These alternate seating options for my students will mean that they will be given the tools that they need to self regulate their sensory needs and will be able to focus on lessons with ease. Through giving them wiggle chairs they will be able to sit at their desk and move with their chair in a safe manner so that they are able to get the needed sensory input their system needs without hindering their learning. The bouncing balls will help them to remain focused on lessons by being able to engage in movement will sitting or use them to request a sensory break so that they are able to come back refreshed and ready to learn. These materials will help their sensory issues from their autism to be integrated into the classroom with ease and comfort.
Through your support and donations, my students will be given the opportunity to learn.
These materials will allow them to be able to focus on the content being taught. It will show them that they are more than a disability but rather they are unique students with learning needs that are supported by a community. You will forever change my students' lives by giving them the opportunity to learn in a manner that is comfortable for them.
