This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is comprised of students from various backgrounds and cultures and a good percentage of the population is composed of low-income households. We are also a hybrid school, hosting two Cambridge Magnet programs (Robotics and Medicine), as well as a general education school. Our goal is to blend and mix all of our students from various backgrounds, cultures, and levels of education, and help them learn to understand and accept each other through cooperation and determination!
Now that sports are back on, we are hoping that students can work towards building teamwork, cooperating together, and is determined to build on their skills and do well in their respective sport!
My Project
Our school is a Title I school, which means that a great majority of our students come from various backgrounds (primarily a Hispanic community) and tend to come from low-income households. After a few tough years of the pandemic, causing sports to be canceled, our school district and school have allowed students to participate in sports again. When this announcement was made, many of the students and parents were eager to learn more about the various sports we offered at our school, including volleyball. Students are in desperate need of playing sports (volleyball) in order to have a break from their pandemic lives. With no sports nor activities, students were struggling socially and did not have a means of being able to partake in an activity they enjoyed.
Many of our students have returned to the physical building with anxiety and are overstressed, and being able to participate in volleyball will help students deal with this anxiety and stress, while also teach them about communication and teamwork!
My volleyball players are eager to improve their skills, but our lack of equipment is keeping them from truly learning the skills necessary for victory! With your donations, I know it will bring more excitement to my players, greater passion and determination, and help us secure more victories once the season begins!
