Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember sitting on the rug in third grade listening to your teacher read a story and not being able to see the illustrations because you were seated in the back? Well imagine English not being your first language and not being able to see the illustrations or the text to help your understanding!
My class is primarily English language learners.
They are eager to learn and have a new love for their new school and country. They come to school every day ready to show what they can do. They want to do their best and make their parents proud. Most come from underprivileged homes but they are happy, curious children.
My Project
English language learners are visual learners. This technology will open up a whole new world for them.
The addition of a document camera will allow me to bring all subjects to life.
During Language Arts, I am sure that by seeing the books projected they will have a better understanding of the literary elements of a story since they can truly follow along during a read aloud. We can even use it for fluency practice. Their reading skills will surely improve.
I can also enhance science lessons especially since they will be able to see what I am doing much more clearly, allowing them to reproduce the same or similar results.
During math I will be able to showcase the manipulatives, thus making it easier for them to follow directions.
Overall, the addition of a document camera will make my teaching more effective and meaningful. It will afford my students a technological tool that will help them excel.
