My Students
My students are a great group of kids. They are 9th graders with Autism and other developmental disabilities or special learning needs. They need more than a teacher who tells them what to do, they need an adult who will listen to them and work with them on their individual needs.
In the words of Temple Grandin: "Kids have to be exposed to different things in order to develop.
A child’s not going to find out he likes to play a musical instrument if you never exposed him to it."
My classroom assistant and I create a positive and interactive learning environment where our kids know that they are welcome, they are loved, they are appreciated, they are safe and they can succeed.
My Project
My students sometimes have a hard time learning simply from a book. They benefit greatly from being able to see fragments of these wonderful nature documentaries in order to truly visualize what they are learning about. Having these DVDs will ensure that my students for many years to come will be able to see animals in their natural surroundings on screen, and not just text on a page or a picture in a book. I have used the Internet for this in the past, but technology has a way of not cooperating when you need it most. Having these DVDs would eliminate that issue.
