My Project
I am a reading interventionist for 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. My students are wonderful kids who work hard each day to improve their reading skills. Research shows that one of the best ways to become a better reader is by reading books.
For my students, this means providing books with characters that look like them, come from the same culture, or have the same experiences.
Research has also shown that reading engagement is higher when students can relate to what they're reading. I want the books in my classroom library to capture my students' interest and make them want to read even more! Awesome graphic novels such as the ones in this project with diverse characters are sure to do just that!
