it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Imagine having a seventh grade math teacher that was dedicated to making MATH PURPOSEFUL, BEAUTIFUL, and FUN! Now imagine going to school in a building that struggles to put useful, aesthetic, modern tools and exciting projects into the hands of students. Herein is the experience of my scholars!
My NYC students come from low-income homes and arrive at school looking to better themselves through visualizing and accomplishing their dreams.
In developing a love of math and creativity, they are bound to succeed! My students love music and art! With these interests I aim to grow their love of the beautiful world of mathematics.
My Project
I aim to one day build an entire school that teaches math through music and film production, though I'm taking this one project at a time. These ColorTube lights are a small part of a larger dream project that will have students seeing MATH in VIVID COLOR. With these materials, my students will experience the actions and expertise of computer programmers, sequencers, and theatrical design artists - they will be learning translatable design and programming skills that will directly influence their ability to succeed in exciting and fulfilling careers. They will also be able to use these skills to participate in and shape the design of school rock band and theater productions! Additionally, my students will embrace the addition that you will make to the aesthetic value of our classroom.
My students learn through many, many modalities; some being visual and tactile learners.
When this project is brought to life, my students will be able to grasp concepts of quantity, programming, sequencing, and design, all in a seventh grade math classroom! I want to give my students the ability to succeed in a creative, thought-inspiring, and beautiful classroom that allows them to gain useful and translatable skills.
