Help me give my students the resources needed for them to fully understand the organisms they will be taking care of (honey bees) and how the things they do at our school will impact our whole community.
My students love spending time in the outdoors and learning about the botany and wildlife of our community. When students return, they often say their favorite memories are from their twice annual camping trips they participate in each year. This year our school has taken on beekeeping as we have acquired 10 outdoor hives and one indoor observation hive. Students have been fascinated about how all the members of each hive work together and how these tiny insects have such a huge impact on humans.
My Project
These materials , books , videos and bee activities, will give students a resource to aid in their learning about honey bees in class and their importance in our community ecosystem. I plan to use them for student center activities, to support hands-on learning and whole group reads. I want students to know that they can make an impact on their community. I want students to know the importance of honey bees, feel like they are honey bee hive experts, and give them the confidence to advocate for our local ecosystem. The more exposure students have to these tiny insects the more it will help them attain my learning goals for them.
