This project will benefit a range of students and abilities from honors level to students with disabilities to English Language Learners. Having access to charged laptops and tablets would be a gamechanger in our 6th grade ELA classroom. Students would be able to take periodic assessments on laptops, which helps prepare them for the NYS exams. Paper and pencil exams are gradually being phased out , so having easy access to technology is essential. This project would also enable me to incorporate technology into daily lessons, such as interactive writing tasks, so that I can assess how students are performing IN THE MOMENT rather than after the bell rings. A charging station would be benefit a total of four 6th grade classes (120 students) on a daily basis.
Goals: Middle schoolers want to feel in control and confident.
These charging ports will allow students to be more independent and responsible, knowing that they have a place to charge their devices between classes or use during ELA class. English Language Learners and Students with Disabilities in particular would benefit from this project because they will be able to access resources, such as a dictionary or thesaurus.
The population of my students is unique. They come from very diverse backgrounds and cultures. What better way to bring them together than technology? Our school is a Title I school, which means that at least 40% of our students come from low-income households. Having technology at their fingertips is something that they do not necessarily have access to at home.
You will be benefitting a good cause if you find this project. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
More than half of students from low‑income households
