This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are born with two eyes, one mouth, and two ears. Most people excessively utilize the eyes and mouth more than the ears. It is a great effort to get students to develop good listening skills; with your help our goal can be achieved by upgrading our listening area with audio books and headphones.
My kindergarten class consists of twenty-two African American students.
Many of them have not had prior Pre-School experience. Therefore, the majority of my students who enrolled in my class this Fall were performing below grade level. This is a Title I school; which means 90% of the students who attend this school receive free lunch. Also, many of the students come from low-income and single parenting homes; which attributes to very little parental involvement.
My Project
My students need headphones and audio books to upgrade our classroom listening center and interact with computer websites. Students will be able to visit the listening center at least three times a week at their scheduled time to listen to and review phonemic skills, current curricula Reading stories, their favorite Nursery Rhymes and Fairy Tales. They will also get to listen to Sing-a-long Math Cd's that promote skip-counting, numeral recognition and a variety of other Math skills.
It is vital to have a listening center in the classroom environment.
A listening center promotes better listening skills; pleases the auditory learner; and provides another effective way to teach and reach students.
