This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students experience difficulties, both academically and socially. Their problems relate to their home situations, financial instability, poor parental involvement and lack of motivation. This transfers negatively to their learning.
As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district with close to 100% of our students receiving free or reduced-price lunch and about 20% living in one of the four shelters around our school, I would like my students to experience learning in an enjoyable environment.
I want to provide activities where they will be engaged and thrilled and get the chance to change their negative feelings about learning into positive ones. My students need to believe in themselves. They need to know that they can be creative thinkers and assets to the community.
My Project
My students need bins to house their books and carts to store the bins. They also need a tabletop paper center to organize and store their art and construction papers. They love to read so the cart and bins will make it easy for them to locate their books when needed. Every time they need a book they have to search through a lot of books to find the ideal one. This wastes time.
I want my students to be happy and organized in the classroom where they spend most of their school day.
Also, the organizer will allow them to put their book assignments in the right place and they can easily get the required color paper they need for their reports from the paper center. The leveled chart will keep track of the books that are checked out. They use different books during my math, science and social studies classes. I have a lot of different types of books but limited space to display them. Please help!
