My students need an organized way to locate books. These book bins/boxes will help organize all of our bilingual and non-English text.

My Students
I am an ENL teacher in a high poverty school. I work closely with the mainstream teachers at my building to help deliver content to our ENL students in a way that they can understand. Our students are some of the hardest working kids and I love watching them grow!
I am responsible for teaching and/or monitoring over 120 ENL students at a K-6 elementary school.
The majority of my students speak Spanish as their first language, although I do have a few other languages, including Arabic, Yoruba, and Mandarin Chinese. In the past year, I have had students enroll from countries such as Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, and Honduras. These students are very enthusiastic and excited to learn!
My Project
My students will be able to locate books that are interesting to them and on their level much more efficiently with these book bins/boxes. The texts that will be stored in these organizers will be culturally diverse and in the first languages of my students. This library will be open to all language learners and the books will be open for students to check out and read with families or on their own time.
Research shows that if a student is able to speak, listen, read, write, and think in their first language, they will effectively pick up a second language much quicker.
The students that I work with need more exposure to texts in their native language so that they will be able to connect with new learning in English. These book bins/boxes will help my students find resources related to what they're learning in their mainstream classrooms, but available in their native language.
