Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach moderate special needs students in 6th - 8th grades. My inclusive classroom has a wide spectrum of disabilities and learning levels, and has an average of 8-9 students staying in my room for the entire day. (With others joining us for Life Skills or targeted resource learning.)

This summer, we are moving to a new room to accommodate incoming students with more severe disabilities.

This new room is a blank slate, presenting a blessing and a need. The room doesn't have cubbies, a place to put the students' personal belongings, or spaces where only their possessions are allowed to live.

Not only does a cubby locker give a student ownership of a piece of the classroom, it's also used as a center for their personal daily schedule. Since many of my students have organizational needs, having a "home base" is a must!

I'm hoping that you'll support our move this year, giving all of our students a huge welcome and home base as they return for their next exciting year of adventure!
