My Students
Have you ever been frustrated? My students are trying to succeed in mastering the skills of the new Common Core Standards, but do not have the basic skills needed.
I teach 13 first grade students with special needs.
The issues they are dealing with range from speech delays, emotional issues, ADHD, and autism. These children face challenges everyday within the classroom and in their home lives. They attend a public school in New York City within a low-income urban community. Many of their parents lack the education needed to help their children and work many hours leaving them with little time to make education a priority.
My Project
I am requesting five language activities. These activities will be used by the students during center time. The activities come with bright colorful pictures, step by step directions and hands-on materials to use. This will help them to build the basic skills they need to master the Common Core Standards.
Many of my students lack these basic skills. They have become frustrated and seem to be giving up when faced with a challenge. These centers will make learning fun and help them to become more confident learners.
Being frustrated is a helpless feeling.
Please help these six and seven-year-old students succeed and overcome the obstacles they are being faced with daily. It is too early in their educational career to feel this way.
