My students need a microphone and podium to better practice their ability to present to an audience. As young students they can begin working on these skills which will be essential in any career.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our intermediate school is a Title I school located in Sacramento, California. Our school serves 4th-6th grade. We have a dual language program and an English only program which are both hosted on site. My 5th grade classroom is a 50/50 dual immersion, meaning that students are taught in Spanish for half the day and in English the rest of the day. Our school is composed of 352 students and 17 teachers, supported by other staff.
Of our 352 students, 100% receive free lunch.
Our dedicated staff reflects the population that we serve as the majority of the school is minority students and so is the staff. The school is composed of 51.1% Latinos, 23.3% African American and 17.3% Asian. Of these students, 27.6% of them are English Learners (EL’s), 84.4% are socioeconomically disadvantaged and 14.2% have disabilities.
Our school is very limited in resources. My students have access to computers twice a week for one hour at a time. Our library is filled with outdated books. Yet, among all these challenges my resilient students are eager to learn and come in with positive attitudes.
My Project
For many people speaking in front of others is an incredibly intimidating experience. For many students who are naturally shy it is very difficult for them to speak up in front of others. By providing this microphone podium and speaker students who may not feel as confident will be able to project their voices loud and clear.
These supplies will help give students a voice and make them confident in their public speaking abilities.
This is a critical skill that everyone must master as many careers require professionals to present in front of others. 73% of the population reported having a fear of public speaking, so let's help our students overcome this obstacle.
