Can you imagine not having any music programs at a school? Like many schools today, my school is facing massive budget cuts that have led to many arts programs, such as music, to disappear.
My 30 fourth grade students would love the opportunity to learn how to play a musical instrument.
My students come from a diverse range of backgrounds. While some have had the opportunity to have private music instruction outside of school, most of them have never held an instrument in their hands before, let alone played one. Learning how to play the recorder would be a first for all of my students.
My Project
In order to foster a love for and understanding of music, I would like to teach my fourth graders to play the recorder. I plan to teach students how to read basic music notes and play simple songs using the books included in this project. The soprano recorder requested has baroque fingering and is good for beginning students. The holes are well placed and easy for the students to use. I will teach them the basics of music theory such as: notes, rests, crescendos, and reading the musical staff. They will be introduced to composers like Mozart and Beethoven. Students will gain a sense of responsibility as they are taught to properly care for their instrument on a regular basis so it may last for a long time. My goal is to instill in each student a desire to continue to learn about and play music for the rest of their lives.
Your donation to this project will provide my fourth grade students with the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument.
The appreciation for and understanding of music that they will gain from playing the recorder will last a lifetime. Please consider supporting music in public schools and providing these recorders for my students.
