Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Every child enjoys listening to a good book! For my students who struggle with reading, listening to their favorite stories encourages them to learn words they didn't know, read along and build on their own fluency skills.
My students are special boys and girls from the nation's capital, Washington, D.C.
They attend school in the heart of the city and are highly energetic! They attend a public elementary school and are very involved in their local community. Our school has a high number of English Language Students whose first language is Spanish and are still learning English. We also have a high population of African American students, who are D.C. natives and proud to grow up in such an important city!
My Project
Listening to stories in elementary school is one of the most important parts of the day! We do a teacher read-aloud every day, and still the students yearn to hear more stories read to them. With many struggling readers, it is easy to become discouraged when reading a book that is too difficult. Incorporating a new listening station into the classroom will give students the opportunity to listen to their favorite stories, become familiar with the text and eventually be able to read the stories on their own!
Donating to our classroom would give my students the chance to engage in interesting stories independently during out center time.
Students can read with their friends, listen to their favorite books and build their vocabulary. This listening station is just another way to get my students excited about reading and encourage them to read along!
