My Students
My students are hardworking and eager to learn! During the first few weeks of school, we learned the word "persevere" and ever since my crew has persevered even when the learning got really tough! Kindergarten is completely different than what they were accustomed to in Pre-K, they entered the classroom shocked to see a room void of dramatic play and nap mats!
After getting over the initial shock of "what was missing," my students quickly adapted to the new routines and procedures and settled in as Kindergartners.
While they often reminisce on their old classrooms they are chugging along on the Kinder train working on becoming readers and writers and critical thinkers each day. We learned to become active listeners and to engage our peers in conversation by not only listening to what they have to share but adding on by agreeing, disagreeing, or building upon what was said.
Each day is an adventure with this bunch and I am so proud of their progress!
My Project
Each day, during literacy and math workstation time a group of students work on technology improving their literacy and math skills through the use of iReady and Lexia. We began the school year with enough technology for each student to visit the technology station at least once each week for literacy and math and rapidly our laptops stopped working. As a result, technology is home to three students each day during the literacy and math blocks.
The priority is given to students who need the most help in various areas so students who have a firm grasp of the material are disappointed to realize it isn't their turn at technology.
I love that my students challenge themselves and each other and even loaned my personal laptop for use in technology for a couple of weeks and I am disappointed that some of them have gone multiple weeks without the challenge.
