My Students

My class is an energetic, excited, and overwhelmingly enthusiastic group of Kindergartners. They love coming to school and interacting with their peers and teachers. They are a funny, dedicated, and inquisitive group of students who run into the classroom and don't want to leave! They are four and five-year-old students who need lessons and activities to keep them engaged in learning. Our school is a new school with pre-kindergarten through second-grade students. Our school has a high population of English Language Learners, Special Education students, and students from various cultural backgrounds. Our students need a high level of support for them to learn at their best.

My Project

My young students have a hard time learning in the traditional way. They require hands-on, engaging lessons to help them learn at their best. During our phonics instruction, my autistic students have a hard time learning sight words. I want to create phonics activities that will allow them to learn their letters, sounds, and words in a way that will help them learn at their best. Having my Autistic students engage in fun alphabet​ games will help them retain the information they are learning more so than if they were learning in a more traditional way.

Special education students and most boys have a hard time learning while sitting still.

These activities will allow them to move and "play" while learning their letters, sounds and words. My students will use the letter stamps to stamp words they are learning. They will use the letter cubes to spell simple words such as cat, man, fox. The cart will be used to store the phonics centers that will be created using the supplies we are requesting from this project. The learning goal is for my young students to learn sight words (the, come, come) and simple words (cat, fox, fun, sit) to help them during reading and writing.
