This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"One of the ways to chip away at the financial literacy problem in our country is to get to the kids early and let them develop positive behaviors and attitudes." George Carl
This year, I have 22 amazing students who come to school with a huge smile on their faces ready to learn and take on new challenges in life.
Our school is a Title 1 school where 71% of our students are categorized as at-risk. Our school is located north of Houston, in a rural community, where most of our student population is economically disadvantaged and education is limited in their homes. Even with these numerous setbacks, my students are spectacular and demonstrate a great desire to learn so that one day they, too, can attend college. Therefore, financial literacy needs to be learned early so that the concept of saving and spending can be instilled and gear them towards a successful future.
My Project
I am requesting an iPad with wifi capabilities so that my students can use technology in both whole class discussions and in small group sessions to learn the basic skills of financial literacy. We will be able to load money applications and, in conjunction with the requested AV adapter, students will learn with visual aides the concepts of making change, how to budget their money, and most importantly the "hows" and "whys" of saving at an early age. Also, with the iPad calculator feature, my children will be able to apply these concepts to real world applications such as going to a store or a bank. Financial literacy will be learned outside of a textbook and students will better comprehend money skills, they will be engaged while learning basic math skills. Most importantly, my students will have fun while learning. Please allow us to enhance our math and money skills with this technology.
Students need to learn to conceptualize and distinguish the difference between spending and saving.
They need to learn the advantages of having good money skills, because it is an essential component of life. Allow me to teach my students financial literacy using technology so that they can be financially prepared for a successful future.
