Most of the students who attend my school come from low-income families. Many are not able to go to the public library, and some of them have never even been in a bookstore such as Barnes and Noble! Despite not having regular access to books outside of school, there are many avid readers who attend my school! The students who come in to check out books are looking for an escape. They read about books on the internet and they come in asking for them.
My Project
At least two to three times a week I am asked if I have gotten any new books in. My students need more books to read. The books being requested will be cataloged into the media center's collection for all students to use. The addition of these books to our collection will increase circulation and student interest in the media center. The new books will also get new students into the media center who have not previously been in to check out books.
Many of the books that are being requested will help to complete book series that the students have enjoyed or have requested.
Our avid readers are chomping at the bit to get new books to read!
