My Students
We have music inside all of us, and with your help, we can continue to express ourselves through music.
Speaking from the music department, each year a new class of students comes to us looking to build upon the previous year's success.
Resources are hard to come by, especially for a music program at a Title I school, but the school has done a great job in supplying what it can to field our successful music program. Being that most families cannot afford musical instruments, the students show their gratitude to the school for providing them with instruments by playing their hearts out every chance they get.
My Project
We are given many opportunities to obtain instruments for our students so that we can field a successful music program, however we find it hard to service the instruments we already own. With each passing year we spend more money and grants on repair than we do on purchasing new instruments. Our school obtained a very nice 5 piece Pearl drum set that has the quality to last many years, however we do not have cases for the instruments. This has led to many damages caused from leaving the instruments out (being knocked over, unauthorized students playing the drum set) to damages sustained while moving the instrument (field trips and other performances). If we were able to get these cases, we can make this drum set last for many more years and allow students at MS 180 to use this great piece of equipment for years to come!
For a student body who is fortunate enough to have access to such great instruments and equipment, it is important for us as a staff to do everything we can to make sure they continue to do so.
This project will allow years of students to be a part of something very special. We hope those lights that ignite in our students' eyes when they walk into our music room never goes out because broken instruments.
