Help me give my students a mop bucket, mop, wipes and other cleaning supplies to help my students clean and maintain their classroom to promote an understanding of every single job that happens inside a place of work!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
My students are assigned to their 12:1:1 standardized assessment classroom with the aims at earning their NYS Regents Diploma, while gaining skills that will allow them to transition to the workforce that meets their career training. In our classroom, we do not let my students limit themselves because they have varying forms of emotional disturbances, learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders!
As part of our true, authentic, student-centered learning environment, my students are truly in control of the pace at which they work on their work.
They have to buy in to get to the finish line, and when they do, they are able to visualize how rewarding a high school diploma can be.
With that being said, one part of our truly, student-centered classroom environment is that my students learn how to take pride in their classroom, from top to bottom, from what is left on the floor after class, to fighting the germs on the tables by themselves.
Rather than hearing my students say "well someone will clean it", my support staff and I are shifting to a student-driven classroom, where they learn the importance of "the person who cleans this stuff up." With this outside of the box approach to financial and workforce education, my students will learn the importance of every job in the building, and take ownership of their classroom by using the mop, bucket, wipes and other cleaning supplies to keep it spic and span!
