This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Get us reading! My students absolutely love to read but very quickly devour the limited selections in my very small classroom library.
My students are 9th and 10th grade special ed and ESL students.
We are a high needs school in New York. They come to me with varying degrees of English but with an interest and motivation to learn and succeed. I see most of them two periods a day and am able to dedicate two periods a week to independent reading.
My Project
My students will have a wider selection of books to choose from and fall in love with. Fostering a love of reading in a second language is no easy task but has endless benefits. By helping to supply them with books, you will be giving them confidence and stimulating a love of reading in English that will carry them throughout high school and beyond.
My twice a week independent reading program has already benefited the ESL students at my school and with your generous support I will be able to continue to keep their heads in the books.
