This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Anyone who has ever worked with 7th and 8th graders understands motivating them can be a challenge. That is why my co-teacher and I developed a positive rewards based system to encourage positive behavior. Students earn raffle tickets anytime they display positive behavior such as: acts of kindness, being on-task, participating in class, or academic achievement. At the end of the week we pull one ticket from each of the homeroom bins and those students are our winners for the week. These students receive their choice of a prize or homework pass. Another positive rewards based system we will begin to implement is using stickers to incentivize independent reading. Our new system will reward students with stickers when they successfully complete their independent reading book.

Therefore, for our project we are requesting rolls of raffle tickets for our weekly raffle and vinyl stickers to reward independent reading.

Our hope is that this new sticker system will be as successful as our weekly raffle. Your generous donation will help us develop a new positive reward system (the stickers for independent reading) and reinforce a system that is already in place (the rolls of raffle tickets for our weekly raffle).

7th and 8th graders, despite being the oldest students in the school, are still highly motivated by stickers, that is why we hope this new system will encourage our reluctant readers to pick up a book and read!
