I teach first grade at a new school. Many of our students are refugees from Somalia or neighboring countries. Our school is a charter school, which means we are a tuition-free public school offering a unique educational program. We ensure that our students are immersed in an academically rigorous program and at the same time foster character education, assimilation, and social development.
The teachers at our school felt it was important for students to realize the importance of giving. As a school, we committed to giving to a program called "Books of Hope." The benefits of this program are two-fold. First, our students will make books, utilizing their knowledge and skills in all of the subject areas. Secondly, we will send our books to a school in Africa, where students have a desperate need for any type of literature. Our students and school community joined together to raise money for the students in Africa, with the recognition that individuals can make a difference by giving what they can. The cause is worthy, as well as "close to home" for many of our students.
Your help in purchasing this book binding machine will enable us to send all of our funds raised directly to the students in Africa. It will also help with the process of efficiently and effectively producing a generous amount of books for African schools.
Your generosity will benefit an innumerable amount of students, including our students, who are blessed with this opportunity of giving, as well as the students in Africa, who will have sturdy books that will last through a plethora of readings.
