This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My job is to help 5 years old learn to exist outside of their parents home. I teach enthusiastic and innocent 5 years old that are learning how to be students. I have students that receive ELL, speech services, and various other services. We have such a diverse and amazing student body that it can be challenging to make sure each and every one of them is being given all the time and attention they deserve. Parents entrust their most prized possessions to me and I try my hardest to help them develop into 1st-grade ready students.

Some of the challenges that I face on a daily basis include; making sure students have enough cold weather gear, feeding students that are food insecure and having access to the technology that many students need to be familiar with in order to be ready for other grades.

My Project

Kindergarteners are some of the most exciting and fun children to teach! I try my best to make sure they are getting the best education I can give them. I often purchase materials and food out of pocket for my students; however, some things are out of reach for my finances.

We do art and use OSMO daily to reinforce our letters and numbers, but I don't have enough supplies to be as effective as I'd like.

The perfect number of children to use one OSMO at a time is 2. In order to have enough materials for my students, I need a few more OSMO's. While they use OSMO they are very engaged and involved.

Times have changed and we don't teach with students just sitting in their seats taking notes. We have constant brain breaks, play time and interactive lessons that involve movement and singing and art. With the expanding ideas of how to be an effective teacher, there are additional resources that are needed. The financial aspect of these resources, unfortunately, falls on many of the teachers.

Please help me have enough art supplies and OSMO stations so we can accomplish everything that we set out to do at the beginning of the year. We try to have fun, learn the fundamentals, teach social and behavioral skills and prepare our students for the next grade.
