My students come from many different countries across the globe. They speak multiple languages and have unique traditions and practices that I love to learn about from them first hand. Their experiences are both incredible and harrowing, and yet we all come together in the same classroom to find comfort, education, a positive environment, and unique experiences.
What makes these students so special is that they all have something to teach each other, and they always have something to teach me.
Each year, I learn a great deal about my students and about the experiences they've had and the places they've been. In a world where new technology and traditional education is always at our fingertips, it's meaningful for me as a teacher to expose my students to special opportunities, unique trips, and a comfortable setting where learning is evident and expected, and students will remain engaged so that we can try new things and always remain successful!
I am requesting CT Transit bus passes for my students so that they can ride the Hartford city bus or the CT Fastrack to and from school. Our students are not provided with a school bus unless they live 2 miles or more away. This is a tremendous distance to have to walk, especially in the cold months, or during rain or heat.
City bus passes would encourage my students to come to school, help them arrive to school on time, and provide them with a safe way to get home again after school.
If a student ever wanted to stay after school for extra help, tutoring, a club, sport, or fun activity, they can be sure that they will get home safely afterwards by taking the city bus or the Fastrack.
By providing bus cards to students upon request, I am showing my students that I care about their well-being and safety. This also helps to build positive relationships within the classroom and allows the kids to know that they are cared for and loved. It helps to provide 9th graders with a feeling of comfort and safety at a new school, and allows students to participate in various after school activities while still being able to get home safely.
