Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We all love to eat, and there is nothing more gratifying than enjoying good nutritional food that you grow yourself! Many students have never had the opportunity to experience where their food comes from, who grows it, or how it is produced.
My goal is to provide students with garden themed activities along with a garden cart, raised beds and seeds that will nurture social skills through healthy indoor/outdoor group activities, education through the science of growing plants/exploring food nutrition, and the experience of seed to harvest farming.
Students will learn about:
*The water cycle and its value for plants/animals/humans
*Growing zones and seasonal planting schedules
*Seed sowing (direct/transplant) and plant growth patterns/fertilization
*Composting/recycling/vermicomposting for healthy soils
Please consider funding this project, as it will provide year-long activities and educational opportunities. My students are already excited about seeds that they have already sprouted, and they are looking forward to being able to expand their activities outdoors. Spring is here, and you can help us grow!
