Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Each day we do the Daily 5 as part of our classroom routine. The children need to be engaged in order for me to conduct guided reading with small groups of children. When they have to do the same activities day after day, they get very bored and are not engaged.

I teach at a Renaissance school with all but two students on free lunch.

The families at my school are hard-working. Many of them do not speak English. They often cannot help their children with simple homework. Although these are just some of the obstacles we face, my students are expected to perform the same as children at high socioeconomic schools. We, as teachers at my school, just have to work harder!

My Project

In kindergarten, we spend a lot of our instructional time on literacy activities. These are learning games- they learn while having fun. The children get bored when they have to repeat the same activity day after day. Because we are always learning new things, we truly need a variety of centers. I believe my students learn best by playing and staying engaged. During Daily 5 time, the students are doing activities in which they learn. These games are very costly which makes it difficult to provide new activities weekly. This project will enable us to get some newly deserved learning activities!

Children learn best while they are engaged and having fun.

These materials will provide hands-on literacy activities which will keep my students engaged and allow me to conduct guided reading groups. When children have to repeat the same activities day after day, they get bored and are not engaged. By having these literacy activities, they will have a variety of materials to use. These materials will help them make words, practice rhyming skills, match CVC words, and so much more!
