My Project
Who would choose to read a book during their free time on a topic that doesn't interest them? Would you read an informational text on a topic that didn't interest you? While some of my students already love reading, many of them have yet to find joy in reading. To develop a lifelong love for reading, students must read high levels of high-interest nonfiction books.
Let's give students access to high-interest nonfiction books to develop reading skills and grow a love for reading to learn!
We have no nonfiction books in our multi-age class of diverse 4th and 5th graders with various, engaging texts to help them grow a love for reading! My goal is for my students to be surrounded by high levels of just-right books that appeal to their interests. Through my mini-lessons, I teach my students reading strategies that they can apply to almost any nonfiction text for years to come. This helps them truly develop higher-level thinking skills while they ENJOY the reading process!
Through this approach, I am confident my students will become engaged readers not only in class but at home as well. Together, with your support, we’ll be able to add some nonfiction books to our mini classroom library to meet the needs of my 4th and 5th-grade students.
