Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Due to the current situation we are all in, it has been a difficult time. Many of my students and their families have been affected. Distant Learning is currently the way I am able to teach my students. This is something new for all of us involved. This includes teachers, parents, and most importantly the students.
My students were not ready for such a big change, but they are doing their best!
With little time to prepare for what is currently happening, many students lacked proper supplies and materials. For Distant Learning, we still want our students to have all the materials they normally have in the classroom. I want to be able to provide all my students with the necessary supplies but will need help doing so!
My Project
I am currently teaching a fantastic group of 2 and 3rd graders in an Extensive Support Needs Classroom. I enjoy teaching my students so much and watching them grow, even if it is virtually right now.
Help my students go the distance by learning!
During this unprecedented time, it is difficult for every one of us. We are all learning to adapt to constant changes and adjust to everyday challenges that may arise. As we are going through this together, so are my students. I know during this time, it has been especially hard for many of my students. It is hard for them not to be able to come to school each day, to see their friends and other familiar faces. It has been difficult as their daily classroom routines have changed and are replaced with virtual learning now.
I want to make sure my students are still succeeding despite this change we are all going through.
The materials I selected are similar to materials that we would use in case to assist in reinforcing what we have learned in class. The sight words games and matching letter games are a fun way for my students to learn various grade-level sight words. Dot-art is one of our favorite art activities that we do in class introduced by our Occupational Therapist. Our OT also introduced us to the WikkiSticks which is perfect for my students as it assists with their fine motor skills. Pete the Cat is our favorite cartoon character and my students love all the books in the collection. It would be great if each of them could be able to have their own set.
