Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a preschool special education classroom and organization and consistency is key to success in my class. My students enter my class at three years old and for most of them it is their first time in school. These materials will help my students learn important skills they need for school.
I am a special education teacher and I teach a preschool, self-contained class.
My students have varied disabilities ranging from speech and language delays, cognitive delays, gross/fine motor delays, to autism.
I teach in a Title 1 school where most of the students receive free or reduced lunch. Despite their disabilities and limitations, my students love coming to school and come eager to learn and play with their friends.
My Project
In order to help my students reach their full potential and teach my curriculum successfully, I need materials. My school district had a lot of budget cuts and I am not sure what our limit will be for supplies. Usually it is $250 and that is not enough for the materials I need for my students.
The glue and scissors I am requesting will be for my students to complete art projects. The folders and notebooks are my main communication with parents. I ordered the plastic folders so they are not easily ripped and it helps the students keep the papers inside neater. The notebooks are what I use to communicate with the parents daily about their child's progress.
My project will make a difference in the lives of my students because they will be able to have the necessary materials to help them be successful.
One of the main components to student success is parent involvement. This is especially true and necessary with special education students. Parent involvement is crucial for my student's success. With these notebooks I will be able to promote parent involvement because I will be able to communicate with my parents daily.
