Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Help us get organized! My students have tables instead of desks in my classroom. Our tables are not equipped with a place for my students to put their daily materials. First graders need their supplies at their fingertips in order to begin their work as quickly as possible.
Our school is a Title I school.
Many students have challenging lives outside of school. This is a refuge for many of them. Besides teaching them the first grade curriculum, I am also teaching them lifeskills to become successful adults. I have a wonderful class of 32 students. They are polite and determined to succeed. First graders can be distracted easily. The time it takes to pass out daily work is time wasted for my students.
My Project
Chair pockets will help my students become organized and be responsible for their own materials. They will be able to get to work immediately and transition time will be decreased so we can move on with the lesson. This will also hold my students accountable for having their supplies in good condition and ready to use.
I feel the chair pockets will greatly help my first graders.
They will not have to wait for me to pass out materials or someone at their table to finish so they can have a turn to get their supplies. My students will also have more usable space at their tables which will also help them be more organized.
