Help me give my students a selection of books that match both their reading and interest levels so they can discover and develop a passion for reading.
Our small, rural district has struggled for years with not having adequate funding to outfit our classrooms. I teach reading to all the fourth-graders in our school and providing them with quality reading materials, and plentiful choices, is a challenge.
But my incredible students have the ability to rise above their economic limitations and reach for the stars, and I want to open doors of knowledge and dreams to give them the tools they need to learn to the best of their abilities.
My Project
The best way to become a better reader is to read more, but with very limited access to our school library due to Covid restrictions, more than ever our classroom bookshelves need to be filled with many engaging titles to attract students' attention.
Finding books that are both interesting to you and at your reading level is essential for becoming "hooked on a book." New titles and a wide variety of subject matter will make it much more likely students will be able to find that perfect combination of "just right" books - books that match their reading abilities and their interests.
By having a variety of engaging books available to my students, I know these independent reading materials will help tremendously in growing a love of reading in our classroom as well as allow students to go home with some great titles if that's where this year takes us.
