Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Special Day classes contain a mixture of students who are functioning at different levels. Many of my students are on the autism spectrum and have sensory concerns. Many of them have difficulty sitting in regular chairs and would prefer to have flexible seating options. Due to their sensory concerns they prefer to use soft cushions, enclosed areas and or use wobble chairs to help them stay focused.
In my class, we try to build a community around what we have in common and our shared experiences.
Our school is a Title I school which is located in a low-income neighborhood. My classroom is about building relationships and accessing the general education curriculum in different ways.
My Project
These flexible seating options will help provide my students with various ways for them to focus in the classroom. The students can use these seats during our group circle time, since many of these children have difficulty sitting on the carpet.
The students will have the opportunity to use these seating options while they are doing their work.
They can use the flexible seating instead of sitting in a regular chair which can be uncomfortable for students with sensory issues, they can use these flexible seating options to help them focus.
