Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The students at my school are from low income and ethnically diverse neighborhoods. They speak mostly English and Spanish and have limited experience with technology. The majority of my kiddos come from homes in crisis.
Above all, I strive to create meaningful connections with my students to help them feel safe enough and settled enough to learn.
We do the best we can with the things we have, but much of it is in disrepair. My particular room is in the annex and is very small without windows. Space is at a premium and students must carry all of their supplies from room to room all day. I don't have enough room for the chairs much less all of the backpacks all over the floors and under tables. We do what we can but it ends up eating up class time just trying to get in and get going.
My Project
We have a painfully small room with no windows and just a handful of tables. Many students are cramped as it is without the hassle of backpacks and stacks of books they need to carry from place to place. Kids have at least three different books/notebooks at any given time. When we throw on top of that, behavioral issues and the need to separate students, it turns into a logistical nightmare.
These desk organizers would help.
With them we could have things organized and make it easier to get to the process of learning. It would be a huge help. It starts and ends class with more structure and leaves less time to be stressed about getting out supplies, running back and forth to packs and so on. It seems like a little thing but really, it could help change the way our classes function in total.
