This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
About My Students
I am excited for this student led project because my students are taking the initiative to lead this project. They see a need in our school and know they can make a change and help themselves and their classmates.
A group of students noticed that when the students were asked to check their work some of their classmates had trouble with basic calculations. They noted that calculators would be a great help for them and their classmates to double check their work and help them find their own errors to learn from their mistakes.
They will have to present this project to the PTA, which will improve their presentation skills. They also need to write in a way to excite the reader to want to support their school and their classmates. These are two vital skills the students can use to help in both college and future careers.
In Their Own Words
We are trying to help our classmates and ourselves be the best we can be in math. We struggle with multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting. We know that it is important to learn how to do this on our own, but we want our class to be more independent and check our own work. We think we can learn from our mistakes and become better at math.
We are excited because we will be discussing this project with our class and the PTA. Getting donations may be hard, but we are excited to see what our voice can do. We also need to make sure our writing is the best it can be to get our point across to the possible people donating.
This project is very important for our class and our school. We need to learn important math skills now before we move on to harder math this year and next year. We are supposed to take regents next year and we want to be more confident.
