My Students
There's no feeling in the world like getting along and making friends. Help my students get along, promote good behavior, and work cooperatively in harmony.
Our urban school is in a high poverty area and serves many low income families and students who are English language learners.
The majority of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds and 85% of them qualify for free/reduced price school lunch. My energetic, diverse class of Kindergarteners represent a plethora of cultures and linguistic backgrounds. 36% of my students are African American, 17% of my students are Latino, 17% are Vietnamese, 17% are Arabic, 2% is Chinese, and 2% is Japanese/Filipino. More than 60% of my class speaks more than one language at home and are learning to speak or practice English.
My Project
We would like books to promote learning to get along, best behavior, and sharing our feelings. These will serve as life-long lessons and provide visuals as well as opportunities for in-depth group discussions. Group games such as Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Color/Shape Bingo, and group floor puzzles will offer my students the opportunity to work together cooperatively as well as learn how to share. Music CDs such as Kids in Motion, Kids in Action, and World Playground will give students the platform to dance, exercise, and play games with their classmates. The art materials such as the stamp book, ABC and number stamps, and ink pads will give students the palette to create art, learn to spell and recognize letters in a friendly group setting.
The books, games, music, and art materials will give my students the foundational tools to learn about getting along, practice getting along, and have fun making new friends.
The life-long skills of cooperating, sharing, discussing, and working well together in a group setting will serve my students for many years to come. We hope you join us and help us all get along!
