This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever had your computers completely break down? What if you didn't have access to a working computer to let the students learn on, update your technology etc.

I work in a very low income area with students with disabilities ranging from Autism to Down Syndrome, Di Georges Syndrome to XXXY syndrome.

Our students are ages 5-13 and range from grades kindergarten through 7th. It has been a difficult task to educate all of these different types of students in the same classroom especially because of the age range and figuring out what is age appropriate. We want our students to be able to use the latest technology to become familiar with it to use it in their every day lives. The technology we have in our classroom, really enhances their experience at our school in in the community. Our budget is gone and Donorschoose has been a lifesaver giving us technology and supplies for our classroom.

My Project

Having a Mac computer in our classroom will make everything so much easier as well as keep our technology up to date and will allow us to download our educational disks that we received 4 years ago. Our computers have been broken for 3 years and because the district is broke, we have not received any new ones, nor were they able to fix them. We have a lot of technology like itouches and iPods and DVD players, but in order to update or fix something I have to bring everything home and figure out a way to update everything on my computer. We don't have any place to download our computer DVDs that the students need to do math, DT training, English, play educational games, do projects, burn DVDs for the students etc. All of this has to be done at my house, so I cant keep everything up to date.

Giving us a Mac for our classroom will do so many things for our whole class.

It will allow us a way to personalize our itouches, update our ipods, burn DVD's of class field trips and skills that the students can do in our classroom. The parents rely on the DVDs to show them things that we are doing in the classroom because they oftentimes cannot make it from work to see it. The students will have access to personalized games and projects. It is a place to start.
