Due to federal and state budget cuts, our students get fewer and fewer materials available to them in class. We have to learn to operate our classroom within these budget constraints. Paper costs money and a document viewer would help lower our costs.
In the 21st century when technology is essential, our students are faced with an English classroom that only has textbooks.
We don't even have enough textbooks for every child. We need the capability and technology to give our students a chance to learn in multiple ways. Our school is located in Georgia. We have many students coming from a transient background or from homes lacking in resources. This area used to be mainly comprised of mills. Since those have closed, many families have been unable to get jobs. Therefore this area is lacking in the funds to purchase items we desperately need in our classroom.
Our classroom has a class set of textbooks. Not only do we not have a textbook for every student, but now we are facing the prospect of not being able to make a copy of an assignment for every student. A document viewer would allow us to project these handouts on the board and students would have access to them. A document viewer would help to make our classroom more interactive. A document viewer would allow us to do all of this and help our students learn!
I teach in a co-taught classroom with an average size of 50 students.
That means throughout the day we teach close to 200 students. That is a WHOLE lot of copies. If we had a document viewer, we could use the money we put towards paper for other things our students can use!
