Imagine 150 kids with no school supplies, low reading levels, and little support from home. This is a typical day for an inner city teacher. My students are low-income, with families that have a single parent working two or more jobs.
I tell my students every day, "Your past does not have to define your future." I am the teacher of homeless students, foster kids, kids who have faced abuse, kids who come to school hungry every day because they didn't eat last night or this morning.
My students often go home to dark houses with no electricity, no furniture, and some even go home to no home at all. Our classroom has a lot of special students who need a lot, but they have so much potential to do great things! I need your help to get them there!
My Project
This is the time of year when supplies are depleted, broken, or missing. It's also coincidentally the time when money is also running low. Many of my students and their families do not have the money to go to the store and buy new supplies to replace the ones they no longer have.
I want to take the burden off my students, so they can have what they need to study and learn in my classroom.
Pencils and erasers are a must. Sharpies and dividers are needed for organization and labeling. They need paper and notebooks for writing down their notes and working on projects.
The other supplies will help individual students meet their goals and have a pleasant classroom environment to feel welcome and loved. I can only do this with your help! Help us to finish this year strong!
