Help Us Find the Color of Our Parachute - College and Work
My students need copies of What Color is Your Parachute for Teens to help plan for the future and flash drives to hold copies of resumes, cover letters and more.
In one of my classes, students in their junior year prepare for post-high school. I'd like each student to have a copy of What Color is Your Parachute, the classic guide that has helped so many find their path. I'd also like each student to have a flash drive to store their work for the future.
Our school community is a rural public high school in Hawaii.
Some of my students have mild and moderate disabilities. We are in a high poverty area with many of students qualifying for free lunch. Many live with single parents, relatives, or foster parents. Despite these challenges, my students are bright, and many aspire to go to college or vocational school.
My Project
One of my classes is Holomua Ikaika, otherwise known as advisory. In this class, I have juniors who are preparing for applying to college and vocational schools. They are also preparing resumes, cover letters and other work related documents. I'd like to offer my students additional guidance with a book they can take away and utilize both now and in the future. In addition, we prepare many important documents ranging from resumes and cover letters to personal statements. These items are essential to students in planning for their future. So that the students can keep these documents to update and utilize in the future, I'd like to give each student a flash drive to save them on.
Many students approach high school graduation without a clear plan of action for what they are going to do.
We are trying to help each student lay out a post-graduation path whether it be to college, vocational school or the workforce. I'd like to support these efforts with a reference book and a flash drive. The book can be utilized to help plan the path and execute the achievement of the selected goals. I'd also like students to be able to keep all the documents they create for future use.
