This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Many of my students struggle to project their voices and keep their vocal folds vibrating when they speak. I usually teach them about different voice levels and how we can shift our voices in different contexts, and we practice these vocal shifts. Some even struggle to produce fluent speech and often stutter. These breaks in vocal fold vibration make it extremely difficult for them to communicate using prolonged phonation. One strategy that has proven to help with sustained phonation for fluent speech is….SINGING! I would like to give my students tools to help them use their voices in different ways to practice vocal projection and a means to help my students who stutter access sustained phonation so they can find and use their best voice possible to communicate fluently.
