Hamtramck is a diverse community with a close knit feel. I have 25 second graders who range in academic levels within the classroom. They have different needs and different interests but what they do have in common is their eagerness to learn! Many lack access to books and literature.
I want to help bring the books to them!
My 2nd grade friends this year struggle with reading. They lack interest in reading; therefore, are less likely to read at home. I want to change that! My students need access to books. ALL types of books; leveled books, interest books, fiction, non-fiction, chapters books, picture books. You name it, they need it. I want to enstill a love for reading that will turn them into life long readers.
Reading for pleasure if a sure fire way to strengthen your skills. Comprehension and fluency are strong when you have exposure and practice. my students need this! They need to fall in love with learning!!

I have so many different levels within ny 2nd grade classroom. I need to have texts for all types of learners. We thrive during our independent reading time. When we bring in new texts it lights a fire inside of all of us. Reading and the love reading is contagious. We try to model that every day and new texts help us to do this! We love new books!
