Help me give my students twelve books from the Magic Treehouse series and other read aloud picture books.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. Sumida's classroom raised $231

My Students
I am a teacher/librarian at an elementary school that serves many Navy and Army families in Hawaii. The library is the center of encouraging literacy on our preschool through sixth grade campus. About half of the students at my school are military dependents who move locations every three years. During the pandemic, many of my students are one hundred percent distance learners and the others are on campus every other day. For my younger students, I read aloud picture books during my story time lessons. I conduct research lessons with my older students.
Due to the recent COVID-19 economic downturn, my school's budget is very limited, and I won't be able to purchase new books for this school year.
My Project
The books in this project will fulfill two project goals.
First, I will use the picture books during my lessons to discuss science and social emotional topics.
The "Eye by Eye" book will be used to compare animal eyes and to show the students would it would be like to see the world through someone else's eyes. "What About Worms?" will be utilized to show my younger learners about trying something unfamiliar and learning about new topics.
My second goal is to provide copies of books from the Magic Treehouse series for my students. My second grade classes have been reading these books together and the individual students have challenged each other to read through the series in order. Unfortunately, I am missing a few of the books in the series so your donations will help me fill out the series. I'd like to encourage these students to keep reading these books while they are interested in them. This will lead them to read other early chapter books in the future.
I have also included a few other picture books and graphic novels recommended from the School Library Journal in this project. These will be promoted with my students for independent reading and for other classroom lessons.
