My students need a projector that can connect to the computer I have in my classroom to view videos through Discovery Learning and to present common core technology links.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students come from culturally and ethnically diverse families, many of which do not have home computers. They speak languages from Spanish to French, Haitian Creole to Papiamento. Most of them come from low-middle class to lower income families and the majority of them are on free/reduced lunch.
I teach the Extended Foreign Language program at a Title I school.
My students are incredibly inquisitive and have an insatiable desire for more knowledge about the world around them. They love natural sciences, including the life cycle of wild animals and their habitats. They are also incredibly interested in the process of manufacturing and how things they use in their every day life are made.
My Project
On a good day, my classroom only has three working computers. Combining this with a building that was built in the 1950s, we have yet to receive any sort of major technology overhaul. I have attempted to use the overhead projectors as a means of incorporating images and graphics into my lessons, but it is limited. If funded, this projector will assist me in not only showing the videos that are now incorporated to our common core curriculum, but will one day be an invaluable resource for students to come.
I believe that by helping my class fund this project, it will broaden the horizon and scope of my students' worldview.
This will be another step in assisting them to become knowledgeable, responsible, citizens of the world.
