My students need Dash robots and Makey Makey to provide them hands on learning that promotes computer science while using core subject of math and some fun.
Our school hails students from Long Island City, Queens that live in a low income socioeconomic community.
There are approximately 500 students from Kindergarten through Grade 5.
Our students thrive on using technology to learn and connect to places they couldn't before! These tools will help engage and promote a desire for the STEM career readiness. In the Computer Lab, students in grades 3-5 have been learning to block code using Code.org and Scratch. As the Technology Teacher of my school, I would love for my students to continue their thirst for coding and STEM. Dash and Dot/ Makey Makey boards will help my students become engaged even more in expanding their knowledge of computer science.
Thank you for your support! Our students will be super excited if we are able to fulfill this project!
My Project
Being the technology teacher at an elementary school, I am able to watch my students grow from the first day they arrive at our school in Kindergarten to when they graduate Fifth grade. When I first introduced coding to my students a few years ago, they were ecstatic to work on code.org and moving through each lesson. I have begun to notice that one thing is missing: the hands on fun learning activities that students can work collaboratively to achieve.
Your greatly appreciated donations will be bringing my students to one step closer to learning more about computer science through different lenses.
This school year, I see all of my students from grades Prek-5th grade. I would love to expand the hands on learning to include more students to the class activities. My students and I thank you for taking the time to read and donate to our cause!
