Help me give my students the experience of Gyotaku fish prints. We are in need of a classroom pack of Gyotaku fish printing supplies including the printing blocks (fish), ink, brayers, and trays.
My students love to create! They love to draw, color, collage, sew, and paint. For many of my students, Art class is the only place they get to have these experiences, and they look forward to it each day. Their faces light up as they walk through the door, wondering what we are going to create today.
Every day I am amazed to see how students can take art projects a step further, making them their own.
They are proud of their work.
"Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up." (Pablo Picasso)
My Project
I want to give students the STEM experience of Gyotaku, or fish printing. Students will learn the print making process, different tools used, and the history of Gyotaku.
Who wouldn't want to do print making with fish?!
Gyotaku is a Japanese art form originating from the mid 1800's. It was originally used as a way for fisherman to keep record of the fish they caught.
Students will get to experience the Gyotaku art form without having the smell real fish! The different shaped printing blocks (fish) will be great for adding variety to their artworks.
